The heat caused Rafael Nadal to raise more of a sweat than his third round opponent Damir Dzumhur, as the world No.1 swept into the final 16 of the Australian Open with a 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 victory over the 28th seed.
It is the 11th time Nadal has made the final 16 of an Australian Open with only two losses in the tournament coming before the fourth round.
Nadal never looked troubled as he opened the match in a ferocious mood, reeling off 10 winners to bolt to a 5-0 lead in less than 20 minutes.
The blistering start gave Dzumhur no chance to settle and the unfortunate Bosnian looked resigned to defeat, even after he eventually held serve against the Spaniard to get on the board in the first set.
The only minor trouble Nadal had for the night was closing out the match as he took three match points to win the third set 6-1 finishing the match in 110 minutes.
Nadal said he was pleased to reach the final 16 and was happy with the way he played against Dzumhur.
"When you win 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 in the third round, is always a great result, no? Without playing well, is impossible to have these kind of results. So [I'm] happy for that," Nadal said.
Nadal is yet to lose a set in this year's Australian Open and has dropped just 21 games in the first three rounds, however he was not prepared to say it was the most dominant he had been heading into the last 16.
"The most important thing is that I am in the fourth round," Nadal said.
Nadal will meet Argentina's Diego Schwartzman next and said he will be have to be on his game to win.
"He's a player that if I don't play my best, I'm probably not going to win," Nadal said.
"He's a player that has all the shots [and] big control from the baseline. He doesn't miss much."
