VIGILANTE justice was dished out on Thursday when a citizens arrest was made at Veresdale Hotel after a motorist crashed into a truck on Mount Lindesay Highway.
The man was travelling towards Beaudesert and allegedly swerved across the road, overtaking cars before hitting the back of a truck.
The driver stopped on the highway near the hotel about 6pm when people who witnessed the incident detained the man until police arrived.
One of the witnesses told the Jimboomba Times how her family car narrowly avoided a similar fate to the truck.
“...Thankfully I was paying attention whilst driving because a guy had ran up the ass end of a truck near Woodhill Hall and was coming around the bend in our lane straight for us,” the witness said.
“I managed to veer away so he didn’t hit us but then when I noticed the driver was slumped that far back in the driver seat I told my husband and brother in law that he looked half dead and to stop him.
“They both jumped out of the car and chased his car down the road.”
The two men “citizen arrested” the motorist until police, ambulance and the fire brigade arrived.
Police said the man’s behavior indicated he was under the influence of a substance after failing roadside tests.
The man was taken to Logan hospital for further tests.
He is yet to be charged as further investigations are continuing into the incident and other traffic offences.
Police are urging witnesses to come forward.
