A HOONING incident involving about 200 cars at Logan Village and Tamborine has resulted in a large amount of rubbish and skidmarks along Albert Street.
Residents alerted police to an organised car event at 1.50am on January 13 which led to about 10 drivers being pulled over and given defect notices and move on directions
Jimboomba Police station officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh thanked the community for keeping police informed of reckless motoring behavior.
“We are aware of the ongoing situation and we will use a variety of covert and overt strategies for enforcement,” he said.
“We urge the community to continue to contact police and work with us to combat this.”
It is understood all of the hoons caught by police do not reside in the local area.
“They are coming from a great distance away and are well planned,” Senior Sergeant Waugh said.
Reports to police indicate about 200 vehicles were involved in the incident.
NUMBER PLATE THEFT
JIMBOOMBA motorists have been urged to get safety screws for their vehicles amid a spike in registration plate theft in the district.
Jimboomba Police station officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh said personalised number plates were also being targeted, causing a significant cost burden.
“There has been an increase in number plate theft with some of these number plates also being used in other crime,” he said.
Cars parked on streets and left in shopping centres have been targeted by thieves, particularly at Jimboomba and Yarrabilba.
Motorists are welcome to pick up safety screws from the Jimboomba Police Station.
Anyone with information that can help police is asked to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
BACK TO SCHOOL
JIMBOOMBA Police will heavily monitor school zones as Term 1 resumes from January 22.
Jimboomba Police station officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh said it was important for people to follow the road rules in school zones.
“We will have a combination of marked and non-marked vehicles, especially during pick-up and drop off times,” he said.
“We will also police the no-standing zones around school because they are dangerous.”
Parents are urged to plan their trips and organise early drop offs.
