THE Jimboomba Athletic Club now has a second World junior qualifier in its ranks.
Camryn Newton-Smith scored 5331 points to place third and qualify for the under 20 World Junior qualifier in the Open Women’s heptathlon event held at the University of Queensland on January 6-7.
Newton-Smith secured personal bests in the 200m, shot put and javelin as well as an equal personal best in high jump.
This comes shortly after fellow club member Ashley Moloney achieved the world junior qualifer level for the decathlon in December, 2017.
Newton-Smith faced strong competition with Townsville athlete Tori West from Townsville claiming first place and Cassidge Simmons coming in second.
West and Simmons achieved Commonwelath Games B qualifiers.
The weekend both State heptathlon and decathlon championships with Jimboomba Athletics Club members Sam Emblen and Keanu Bannan also claiming medals.
Bannan performed well in his first heptathlon competition, acheiving a number of personal bests and finishing with a bronze.
Emblen also won bronze in the under 20 decathlon event.
Jimboomba Atletic Club members Saga Kia, Lila Kia, Erin Gallagher and Sam Schmid also performed strongly on the weekend.
Jimboomba Athletics Club held its first 2018 club night last Friday.
