Rickechei Taramai of Eagleby may fulfill his dreams of becoming a rocket engineer courtesy of a Learning for Life program coordinated by The Smith Family and Officeworks.
The Officeworks Back to School appeal raises funds to help build a better future through education. The program has helped more than 38,000 students across 94 communities, providing financial assistance for education expenses and learning programs.
“Receiving a network of support and basic educational essentials means my children have been able to dream big and focus on the important things in life like setting goals and excelling at their education,” Rickechei’s mother Pania Taramai said.
Now in its fifth year, the appeal is seeking $300,000 through the sale of $2, $10 and $20 stationary donation cards, available in-store and through contributions online until the middle of February.
Officeworks Loganholme store business Manager, Yvonne Tang-Hauk said she hoped customers would donate generously for students in Loganholme.
“We’re rallying together with The Smith Family. We have set an ambitious target and urge residents to show their support,” she said.
Officeworks currently sponsors 370 primary and 10 tertiary students and can support an additional 139 students with additional funding.
The Smith Family’s CEO, Lisa O’Brien said supporting a disadvantaged child throughout their educational journey was vital for their future success.
“Research shows that education is the pathway out of poverty which is why The Smith Family focusses on supporting disadvantaged students with the tools they need to succeed at school,” she said.
Rickechei said he was continually learning.
“I want to thank Officeworks and The Smith Family for enabling me to better shape my future through education,” he said.
Support can be given at Officeworks Loganholme, 1 Bryant Road or online.
