On the surface it’s just a place to go and wash your clothes but when you delve a bit deeper the Jimboomba Laundromat is much more than that.
It’s a place for people to mingle and chat while doing a fairly standard household chore.
Zoey Holman saw this connection to the community first hand when she was using the laundromat while her washing machine was broken during the floods.
She found herself chatting and even got talking to the owner of the wash-dry-fold business she recently purchased.
During the past few weeks Zoey took over the business which is located inside the laundromat but operates independently.
Local ownership is important to Zoey which is why she purchased the business when the opportunity arose. The Jimboomba Laundromat itself is also owned and operated by a local.
Since taking over, Zoey found the community connection within the laundromat to be stronger than she first thought.
“It’s a bit of a hub for the community, people pop in to say hi, that’s how I want to keep it going,” she said.
“I’m all about my little community and being part of it not just in it.”
The service she provides can be used by anyone for any reason from being too busy to not wanting to do washing to wanting a professional job or even if your washing machine breaks down.
Her business provides all laundry-related services including washing, drying, folding and ironing.
The first basket of washing is $25 and $10 for each additional basket which includes washing liquid, strain remover, fabric softener and use of the machines while ironing starts at $1 per item.
While running the business Zoey is also completing a nursing degree which was postponed after having six sons.
She hopes to grow the business and make sure that everyone in the community knows about the service.
“I want to be the person they think about first and build it up in the community,” Zoey said.
To book call 0428 209 209. Her service is separate to the laundromat which is open from 5am to 10pm.
