COMMUNITY based program TRACTION are encouraging teenagers to learn new skills by joining their free bicycle building workshop at Yarrabilba.
TRACTION aims to empower young people and help improve their practical skills, communication and life skills.
During the one-day event, students aged 12 to 17 will learn to make and dismantle a bicycle as well as give a second-hand bicycle a quality check.
There will be three sessions available next month and those who take part in the activity earn a certificate of completion for their efforts.
TRACTION founder Sandy Murdoch said the program provided a safe place for youths to learn new skills and put them to into action through activities.
“We understand that everybody learns differently and some young people don’t realise their potential in a classroom,” she said.
“That’s why we provide an alternative and action-based learning environment, encouraging relationships and access to employment opportunities.”
