THE Tamborine Village Lions Club has been dealt a blow by the theft of at least $5000 worth of equipment and food.
Club president Paul Krahnen said he was heartbroken to find their den had been smashed and property estimated at between $5000 and $7000 stolen.
The break-in occurred between midnight and about 5am on Sunday, December 17 at the premises in Waterford-Tamborine Road.
Mr Krahnen said a fridge and trailer, with a barbecue and gas bottles, a pressure pump and tables were stolen, together with a large amount of food.
The club provides catering and runs barbecues to raise money for charities.
“We support children with spina bifada and cystic fibrosis, among other causes,” Mr Krahnen said.
“It is heartbreaking. I only hope they catch them.”
Since the burglary the club has installed security cameras in an effort to improve the security at the premises.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious or who has any information that could assist police is asked to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
