ABOUT 25,000 jobs have been created in the Logan-Beaudesert region since the election of the Palaszczuk government, says Logan MP Linus Power.
Mr Power said the growth was due to initiatives such as the Back to Work program.
“Consequently, unemployment in the region has fallen from 8.4 per cent to 6.8 per cent over the same period,” Mr Power said.
His comments come as Australian Bureau of Statistics released data last week showing that 143,400 jobs had been created and the unemployment rate had remained steady at 5.8 per cent.
Visiting Berrinba business All Purpose Transport last week, Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said it was the thirteenth consecutive month of jobs growth in the state.
“Our number one priority is jobs, in the south-east and in the regions, and it is clear that our initiatives are work,” she said.
“In the last month alone we have seen 6200 jobs created across our state. That means 6200 more families who have increased security this Christmas.
“Queensland has had the strongest jobs growth in the country over the last year and our stable Labor government will continue to deliver jobs.”
Employment Minister Shannon Fentiman said programs like Back to Work were driving the creation of new jobs.
“We know that some people are still struggling to find the right opportunity and that’s what makes Back to Work and businesses like All Purpose Transport so successful,” she said.
“Back to Work supports Queensland businesses to take on new staff and I’m hearing countless stories about how employers, employees and indeed communities are thriving because of this program.
“I am looking forward to hearing many more of these stories as I get to meet more of our Back to Work employers across the state.”
The Back to Work program operates in south-east Queensland and aims to support employers who hire long-term unemployed or young unemployed job seekers.
