NEW Jimboomba Times journalist Jacob Wilson is set to brave the Mt Lindesay Highway just two weeks after writing off his car in the Whitsundays.
Following a well-timed insurance payout, Mr Wilson drove his new Volkswagen Golf for the long road trip from Mackay to Jimboomba this week to hit the ground running.
Apprehensive to hear that RACQ rates the Mt Lindesay Highway as the fourth most congested highway in Queensland, Mr Wilson hopes his accident won’t be the first of many.
Mr Wilson’s 14 month journalistic career in the Whitsundays had him cover everything from court, sport, politics, entertainment and stories that matter to the community.
He rates the “war zone” aftermath of category 4 Cyclone Debbie as an experience which will be fresh in his mind for the foreseeable future.
“I will always remember reporting in the Whitsundays at a time where the community was at its most vulnerable,” he said.
“It was heartwarming to see so many people helping out mates, feeding people who were without power and transport and just looking out for each other.
“But then there were those who took advantage, and took the opportunity to loot businesses and cause trouble, although those people were definitely in the minority.”
If you see Mr Wilson out and about in the area, feel free to say hi and have a chat.
