A $4 MILLION state-of-the-art ambulance station will be built at Yarrabilba.
The move has been announced by Ambulance Services Minister Cameron Dick who said the station was needed to meet the demands of one of Queensland’s fastest growing areas.
Mr Dick said the facility would initially have a staff of 17 and would be designed with growth in mind.
“Population growth of around 240 per cent is expected in this region by 2036 and we want to ensure the community’s expectations are being met during a medical emergency,” he said.
The minister said Logan MP Linus Power had been advocating for the station and other services.
Mr Power said the services would cater for everyone from young families moving into the Yarrabilba to the elderly who had been living on acreages in the area.
“The increased need for services due to the growing community at Yarrabilba puts pressure on the ambulance station at Jimboomba, so this new station will benefit the entire area,” he said.
Councillor Laurie Koranski said she was excited at the announcement.
Mr Dick said government would purchase land for the station during this financial year, with construction to begin the following year.
“We anticipate it would be close to major arterial roads,” he said.
Queensland Ambulance Service Commissioner Russell Bowles said the station would be open 24 hours a day and would contribute to improving response times.
“We are planning for the future and getting in front of the demand,” he said.
“It will be designed and built using the latest techniques and staff operating out of it will have access to state of the art facilities including rest-study areas, patient care and equipment storage, amenities and a break-out space.”
