GOVERNMENT is set to update its plan for the Mount Lindesay Highway, taking into account changes since 2010.
Announcing the review, Logan MP Linus Power said the new plan would include updated figures and projections for the future, together with investment goals.
He said it was due to be completed by the middle of next year, but he would push for it to be finished sooner.
“Since the last plan in 2010, projects at the Chambers Flat overpass and Camp Cable Road intersection upgrade have been completed and in the budget is investment for further upgrades and four-lane sections,” Mr Power said.
“The investments in the major upgrade of the Mount Lindesay-Logan Motorway to Gateway connection are also a game changer that should be reflected in planning documents.
“These are real improvements set to make our roads safer and reduce congestion.”
Mr Power said he hoped the plan would provide for new projects in addition to those in the budget.
Government has already set aside money to extend the four lanes beyond the Stoney Camp and Granger roads intersection, build service lanes connecting Chambers Flat and Greenbank roads and to upgrade the Greenbank Road intersection.
The West Mt Lindesay Highway Development Corridor Major Road Network Study published by the Department of Transport and Main Roads in May 2010 took into account the road network needed to support the projected urban growth in the area which included Beaudesert, Bromelton, Jimboomba, Yarrabilba, Park Ridge and Greater Flagstone.
The plan also took into account public transport infrastructure and services.
Mr Power said the updated plan would give government a clearer road map of improvements to come.
“I’ve delivered projects to improve the highway and I’ll continue to fight for more.
“The last state government budget fully funded and locked in upgrades including the service lanes in North Maclean, the Greenbank Road intersection upgrade and four-laning beyond Stoney Camp Road, which means we can look ahead to the next improvements and planning for more four-laning on the Mount Lindesay.”
Mr Power said the plan would also identify projects where the federal government could make a contribution.
“The federal government is encouraging us to put forward projects with business cases,” he said.
2010 plan
Conclusions of the 2010 West Mt Lindesay Highway Development Corridor Major Road Network Study included:
- More than six lanes required for Mount Lindesay Highway north of Browns Plains Road;
- Six lanes required between Browns Plains Road and Park Ridge Road;
- An upgrade to six lanes south of Park Ridge Road required, if no additional north-south motorway standard capacity was provided;
- Capacity relief on the Mount Lindesay Highway would be provided by the Park Ridge Connector;
- A four-lane upgrade to the highway between Park Ridge Road and Johanna Street would be sufficient if a Park Ridge Connector would be provided from the Gateway Motorway south to Camp Cable Road;
- A major transport hub between Greater Flagstone and Yarrabilba was necessary under full development;
- Park Ridge Road, Granger Road, Crowson Lane and Stoney Camp Road would need to be four-lane arterials under full development;
- Two lanes would be required on Waterford-Tamborine Road north of Anzac Avenue and four lanes on the same road south of Anzac Avenue between Yarrabilba and Logan Village;
- A four-lane Anzac Avenue or a bypass of Logan Village would be required under full development.
The plan states the conclusions are based on a fully developed area, improved bus services and the availability of passenger rail.
