Survivor raises $640 for Cancer Council

Mrs Cowin handed the donation to Cancer Council Beaudesert president Ellen Logan on Tuesday, August 8.

Two months ago, she said about 40 people showed their support for the cause at the morning tea and cent auction held at the old Logan Village School.

Mrs Cowin said the fundraiser was a success thanks to the Logan Village community and Cancer Council Beaudesert members’ support.

“It was great. The prizes were donated and the local baker supplied morning tea with no charge,” she said.

“I’m grateful for the support and I’m glad I can help spread knowledge about cancer and that it can be survived to a point.”

Mrs Cowin said she had been a QCC volunteer for more than 20 years, hosting events for as long as she could remember.

“I believe every family is affected by cancer one way or another,” she said.

“It’s important to make people aware of what Cancer Council Queensland is doing to help.”

Ms Cowin said after battling breast cancer for 24 years, she faced yet another challenge.

“This year, I found out I have melanoma, no one picked up on until recently, and I’m going through tests,” she said.

Mrs Cowin said despite going through trials, she felt lucky to be alive.

“I feel that I am blessed in some way, because of the journey I have had over the past 21 years, and to still be here I often just wonder why,” she said.

Mrs Cowin said she would continue to share her story.
