Former Australian cricketer Jeff Thomson, affectionately known as ‘Thommo’, is singing the praises of the newly refurbished Ramada Resort Kooralbyn Valley and its golf course.
Recently announced as an ambassador for the resort and its renowned golf course, Thommo, who lives at Manly West, hit the course on Thursday, taking part in the weekly Copperhead Challenge competition.
Accompanying him was his good mate and fellow former Australian cricketer Ian Davis.
Considered by many to be the fastest bowler of all time, Thommo said he was delighted to take on the role of resort and golf ambassador as he had always liked the golf course.
“I’ve played here a lot over the years,” he said.
“All the golf players back in the 80s used to be down here.
“I’m not a reminiscer, but it’s one of those courses that tests you.
“You can have a good day or a bad day, but you always still love the course because it’s so good.”

Commenting on a cricket legend becoming an ambassador for golf, Thommo said he had always been keen on golf.
“I’ve played team sports all my life, but your result is affected by the blokes you play with,” he quipped.
“When you play golf, it’s your own fault – you’re in charge of your own destiny.
“If you have a shocker, you have nobody to blame but yourself.”
During his visit, Thommo also spoke highly of the Kooralbyn area.
“I love the bush, I love the country,” he said.
“You come down here and you feel you’re away from the rat race.”
Resort manager Rene Stern said Thommo, as ambassador, would represent and promote the resort and golf course, helping to pique public interest and build brand awareness.
“Jeff will be a great addition to the resort team given his highly respected place in Australian sport and his enthusiasm for what Ramada Resort Kooralbyn Valley has to offer fun seekers and golfers alike,” Mr Stern said.
“We are extremely privileged and excited to have Jeff Thomson join our organisation as ambassador to assist with promoting our amazing establishment, bringing it back to its former glory and getting Kooralbyn Valley back on the map of the Scenic Rim.”
Mr Stern said Thommo’s new appointment would be officially recognised at a barbecue lunch at the resort on Sunday, August 27.
