A NEW seniors’ activity program has started at Logan Village, and organisers are extending an invitation to the community.
The program will run every Friday at the Old School House, Wharf Street, Logan Village, with two sessions per day.
Resident Bam Davis, of Yarrabilba, attended the first day on Friday, July 7, and said she thoroughly enjoyed it.
“Having just moved to the area from New South Wales, it was so nice to have a friendly fun-loving group to go to.
“I recommend it to any senior in the area. You are assured of having a very nice day out,” she said.
An initiative of Lotus Vana Resort, a not-for-profit organisation, activities will include card games, Rummikub (a tile game blending Mahjong and Rummy), art and craft sessions, dance, light exercise activities and bingo, with small gifts as prizes.
Mike Rennie of Lotus Vana Resort Incorporated said his organisation’s philosophy “is all about encouraging seniors to be actively involved in the local community by having opportunities to have fun, laugh and have social connections.”
According to Mr Rennie, a qualified aged care worker will be in attendance at all times, with volunteers who are inducted by Lotus Vana Resort management committee.
The aim is for seniors in the local community to come along, enjoy meeting new people, join in the activities planned for the day and have fun.
“We are also very aware of how much full time carers need to have some time to themselves and this gives them this opportunity,” he said.
The cost per session is $10, which includes morning and afternoon tea. Those planning to attend both sessions will need to bring a packed lunch. The venue is wheelchair accessible, but own transport to and from the Old School House is essential.
