The greater Jimboomba region could be dumped with up to 40mm of rainfall on Friday thanks to an easterly moving rain band.
While a Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson said the potential for riverine and flash flooding existed, the total amount of rainfall is expected to be less than that delivered by the passage of ex-tropical cyclone Debbie in late March.
Ex-tropical cyclone Debbie brought torrential rainfall to south-east Queensland, which included 156 mm in six hours at Beaudesert and 190 mm in 6 hours at O'Reillys.
The spokesman said the rain band was expected to have partly cleared the region by the weekend.
"Rain and isolated storms will spread to the southeast coastal districts including Brisbane on Friday,” the spokesperson said. “Isolated showers and storms are possible on Saturday.”
An initial flood watch has been issued for coastal catchments between Cairns to Gladstone and inland to include the Burdekin and Fitzroy catchments, with residents in southwest Channel Country and Western County also on flood alert.
