National Walk Safely to School Day will be held on Friday, May 19 and police have asked drivers to be more aware around school zones due to the increased number of children walking to school.
Primary school students across the country will take part in the initiative encouraging children to lead healthy and active lifestyles. The day also provides a road safety to reminder for both students and motorists.
Jimboomba State School students will do their bit by taking part in a group walk to school event. They will assemble at 7.40am at Henderson Road near the football club or at the park on South Street. These walks will depart at 8am.
Jimboomba police station officer in charge Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh said police would continue their patrols of schools zones.
“We will be particularly vigilant on the walk to school day as there will be plenty of walkers being active,” he said.
