TRUSTEESHIP for the Woodhill Hall is in the hands of Logan City Council following its transfer from the hall’s 123-year-old management committee.
While volunteers have looked after the building’s affairs since the late 1800s, secretary Arthur Day said the dwindling uptake of new committee members meant the trusteeship’s transfer was needed.
“We are disappointed the local community has lost the trusteeship but happy council was willing to take it on to maintain,” he said.
Mr Day, whose great-great grandfather served on the building’s original committee, said Woodhill Hall would be leased by the group for the next decade for $1 per year.
He said the premise would be run as per usual, with its financial obligations relieved and larger maintenance work the responsibility of council.
A council spokesperson said the Logan City Council had maintained the historic building for the past years since local government amalgamations in 2008.
Council replaced the septic system and roof between three to four years ago and have continued to audit the premises for safety, along with other smaller jobs.
The spokesperson said the trusteeship’s transfer had formalised council’s maintenance role, which was assumed because of the hall’s location on Crown land.
“Council has recognised the heritage value of the building and worked closely with the hall’s association to ensure it has been preserved for our community today and into the future,” they said.
“Woodhill Hall is a well loved historic building that has been managed, used and enjoyed by generations of people, right back to some of the area’s earliest settlers.”
