Jimboomba State School students are ready for water emergencies, after taking part in their practical water survival skills component this term.
The year 5 and 6 students have been learning about personal flotation devices, how to compact jump and complete survival sculling.
Sports coordinator Paul Ball said the lifesaving component is realistic to what the children could encounter.
“They are swimming in their clothing now, which they find difficult but it is a real situation,” he said.
“These students go on the ferry for their excursion and some families holiday by the water, so instead of just swimming laps during term one, we do this.
“We find completing this is the pool reminds them that they shouldn’t panic if it were to happen.
“They do really enjoy the unit.”
