I want to shine a light on our 2017 City of Logan Citizen of the Year, David Kenny, who was recognised for his contributions to the community at council’s recent Australia Day awards.
There are many great people in our community but I don’t think they could have picked a more worthy recipient. I thank Mr Kenny for his contributions, from his work with Rotary, Quota and the Cancer Council to his incredible advocacy for our region through the Logan Country Safe City Group.
I also congratulate all the other Australia Day award winners and I thank the Logan City Council for facilitating such a special annual tradition to recognise our local stars.
Building Better Regions Fund
Please remember the new $297 million Building Better Regions Fund is still open for applications.
The fund is open to council and to community groups in parts of Logan. It is about strengthening regional and rural communities – communities just like ours.
Applications for the Infrastructure Projects Stream will close February 28, and the Community Investments Stream will close March 31.
Inner regional communities like South Maclean, Woodhill, Mundoolun and Tamborine have the opportunity to be the big winners from the new fund and I encourage eligible groups to apply. To access fund guidelines and lodge an application, visit business.gov.au/bbrf
Good news on dental health
The federal government is increasing the rebate available under the Child Dental Benefit Scheme to $1000 per child for treatment over a two-year period.
Previously, the government set the cap at $700 per child over a two-year period because only $312 of the rebate (on average) was being claimed under the scheme.
Following consultation with the Australian Dental Association, the Government has decided to reinstate the $1000 cap. I am committed to ensuring kids across my electorate have access to the dentist when they need it.
