Logan women are set to be inspired, cultivating their leadership skills, at an event designed to empower the next generation of thinkers.
Young women, aged 15 to 21, have been invited to take part in the Logan Girls Empowerment Project, attending a one-day workshop in March.
R4Respect Youth Ambassador Jennifer Uwineza said the event, from 9am on March 9, will tackle gender inequality and teach young women how to become authentic leaders.
R4Respect Logan Girls Empowerment Project was a recipient of a Queensland Government grant to hold activities and events during Queensland Women’s Week, scheduled to run for six days from March 6.
“We believe the best way to reach out to young people is through young people themselves,” Ms Uwineza said.
“We want them to listen to other young people that are currently doing great things and changing the world.
“They can be inspired, especially during this time of year when women are celebrated.”
The Queensland finalist for the 2016 Young Australian of the Year, Justice King, will guest speak at the conference, along with Ecopads Australia Enterprise director Freda Thong and Stephanie Francis from Maurice Blackburn Lawyers.
R4Respect Youth Ambassadors will facilitate the activities planned for the day, which will cover a few issues faced by young women today – self-esteem, body image, mental health and bullying.
The workshop will be held at the Gould Adams Community Centre.
