A heat wave, which scorched most of the south-east earlier this month, has maintained momentum and will remain between 5 and 8 degrees above the average for December.
The mercury has hit up to the high-30s in areas inland of the coast – including Jimboomba and Beaudesert – within the greater Brisbane region.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Adam Wood said a cool change will be expected from Tuesday, which could reprieve the warmer weather across the south-east.
Storms and wet conditions were also forecast to hit the region from early next week.
