Jimboomba Athletics is in second place on the Queensland Athletics Premiership ladder following an impressive showing at the first shield meet of the season.
A small team of around 20 Jimboomba athletes took part in the Cathy Freeman Shield meet held at the Queensland Athletics Centre at Nathan on Saturday, with many winning their age categories.
Some of the athletes who finished high in the rankings included Nathanial Lovaszi, Mathew Lenz, Mark Wood, Keanu Bannan, Sam Emblen, Connor Addley and Justin Sarah.
Also performing well on the track included Camryn Newton-Smith, Tiarnah Isua, Taylah Lenz, Gemma King, Jamie Roser, Jes Draper, Maddison Aitkin, Marni Balmforth and Josii Hargreaves. Riyani Kettle threw well in javelin.
Jimboomba placed behind the much larger QE2 Track Club on points with the University of Queensland and Gold Coast Victory in third and fourth. Twenty four clubs from all over south-east Queensland took part in the event.
Jimboomba athletes are currently preparing for the south east region relay championships held again at the Queensland Athletics Centre at Nathan next Saturday.
More than 125 local athletes in 50 relay teams will take on the best teams in the region for the right to compete at the state relays championships in December.
