Greenbank horse rider Xena Morrow, 13, has been selected as the flag bearer of the opening ceremony for the Interschool National Championships.
The national championships will be held in Sydney during September.
Her horse, Rainbow Lodge Olympic Flame, was born in the year of the Sydney Olympics, and Xena hopes one day she may follow in the Olympians footsteps as many Australian competitors would have started out in the championships.
Xena competed at the nationals last year in show horse working hunter 65cm where she placed 9th overall.
She was also the combined training state champion for 2015.
This year, she has won three state titles and one runner up, which has given her the opportunity to compete at the nationals at the end of September in two classes.
She will compete in intermediate dressage 1.2 and 1.3, and combined training secondary 65cm.
In the combined training Xena will need to complete a dressage test and a show jumping round, in the dressage there will be two tests.
Xena only took up dressage this year and has taken to the division seeing up to 74 per cent marks.
Xena said she is very excited to take part once again and has a goal of making it to the top five.
“They are very strong competitors,” she said.
“I’ve been working on everything to become better this year.
“I have seen my scores improve across my categories.”
Xena will be holding a fundraiser at Park Ridge Produce on September 10.
