Canterbury College premier choir, Cantabile, are heading on their Passion of Italy tour this month.
Cantabile will perform at venues such as St Peter’s Basilica, Sant’Agnese in Rome, Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli, Rome, Santa Caterina D’Alessandria, Pisa and San Moise Church, Venice.
Several concerts are exclusive Cantabile performances and others are with the passion of Italy festival choir in gala performance with performers from the USA.
Cantabile captain Emma Conway said she couldn’t wait to perform at such iconic venues.
“I am feeling really excited now that it is getting so close,” she said.
“It is quite intimidating too but it will be a really good experience and I am really looking forward to having the chance to perform in such historic places.”
Emma, who also travelled to Sydney and Canberra on the 2014 Cantabile tours, said they would perform songs from their own repertoire as well as a range of other pieces with the festival choir in two gala concerts.
“I am excited to perform with the other choirs too and looking forward to seeing how they perform, as we will be the youngest there so we will be able to learn a lot too,” she said.
Cantabile director Dr Katrina Peddell said the opportunity to sing at some of the most beautiful venues in Italy was an amazing one for the young singers.
“Our girls are extremely excited by this one-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said.
“We have performed in many beautiful venues across Brisbane, Australia, and internationally, but to perform in some truly magnificent historic basilicas such as St Peter’s in Rome is a remarkable opportunity.
“Singing in the 280-voice Festival Choir will be thrilling.
“We have a very talented group of singers and I am sure that they will do Logan and Canterbury College proud.”
Cantabile was recently awarded First Place in the Secondary Choir section of the Queensland Youth Music Awards.
