Children will be given their first chance to try Pinnacle, a program designed to restore lives and build resilience, at a Multicultural Flagstone Family Day being staged at the Flagstone State school sports oval, Poinciana Drive, Jimboomba from 10am to 3pm on Sunday, May 15.
The Pinnacle program is one of many activities available on the day, designed to bring people together by the Flagstone Community Association.
Besides an array of multicultural food vendors, there will be a giant slide, pony rides, face painting and various games and entertainment. The event is free, with a $20 all day pass for the various rides.
Community Association secretary and pastor with the Flagstone Seventh Day Adventist Church Daniel Cinzio said the event was designed to bring the community together.
He said the Pinnacle program was “life changing”.
“It is designed to promote resilience and prevent suicide in youth and teens. It’s part of the Beyond Barriers program and based on the theory that the best results can be in strengthening the frontal lobe.
“It’s about taking a leap of faith. This is an intervention model that strengthens those parts of the brain by facing what makes you fearful,” he said.
The Pinnacle includes a wobbly ladder that worsens as the participant climbs higher, a rock wall and abseil, a high trapeze, a leap of faith from a tiny platform and the Everest walk at the top of a beam.
“This will be its first official run,” Mr Cinzio said.
