RURAL fire brigades in Logan and Beaudesert are fighting fit with the support of almost $190,000 in public funds.
Nine fire trucks have been retrofitted in recent months with new diesel engines and water pumps, with some also receiving new bar lighting.
Three trucks at the Jimboomba station were upgraded along with one from the Cedar Creek/ Wolffdene, Greenbank, Logan Village, Chambers Flat, Birnam and Woodhill stations.
Jimboomba Rural Fire Brigade First Officer Bernie Savage said the upgrades would greatly benefit the station.
“For one thing its safer, you are not carrying unleaded fuel on the trucks,” he said.
“These are also bigger capacity (water) pumps, with flow and more pressure which push out two and a half times as much water.”
Beaudesert Logan group officer David Heck said it was great to see public funds spent on important community resources.
“We need something that's reliable out on the ground, that we know is going to run well,” he said.
“This is also supporting a local business, which is great to see.”
Local Jimboomba business Pump Service Industries was contracted to complete the works on the trucks.
The Rural Fire levy is collected from about 11,000 Logan properties to fund rural brigades across seven districts.
The levy was reduced from $46 to $40 in council’s 2015/16 Annual Budget.
