JIMBOOMBA resident Ron Dunne is warning locals to beware of phone scammers that tried to dupe him last week.
Mr Dunne received a call about noon on Monday from someone claiming to be from the Australian Tax Department but quickly realised that was not the case.
He said having recently heard about a similar scam on television, he smelled a rat and quickly let the caller know what he thought of them before hanging up.
Mr Dunne wants the community to be aware scammers are targeting the area.
"On the TV its said it been happening in West End and the city and that it hadn't reached the suburbs yet but it would, I want people to know that it has," he said.
"When the call comes it doesn't come through immediately you say hello hello, and then there is a pause and this voice comes on.
"The voice definitely sounded foreign and it takes about 10 seconds for it to come on.
"He knew my name and said he was from the Australian Tax Department in Canberra, he didn't get any further than that."
Mr Dunne said it was not the first time scammers had tried to con him.
"I've been done before a few times and my brother-in-law has been scammed and my son has been called as well," he said.
"They ring up and say they are from Telstra or Microsoft with the same sorts of voices."
"Saying they are from the tax department is a bit rude, they'll try anything."
