A MUNDOOLUN man believes his chicken may have laid the world's largest chicken egg, measuring 9.4 centimetres and weighing in at 207 grams.
Bill Winn found the whopper in his chicken coop last week and searched the internet to find the largest egg on record.
He said the largest egg he could find was a 9.2cm egg, weighing 201 grams.
"To me it looked like it was two millimetres bigger than the world record, it could at least be an Australian record," he said.
"It would be pretty cool if it was the world record because there's a lot of chickens in the world."
Mr Winn keeps about a dozen cross-breed layers in his backyard chicken coop and could not be sure which hen laid the egg.
"We think we know who it was because unfortunately poor Emily died the next day," he said.
Mr Winn has contacted Guinness World Records to authenticate his find.
