A FATAL traffic crash at the corner of Camp Cable Road and the Mt Lindesay Highway has renewed calls for traffic lights and a speed limit reduction at the intersection.
A 73-year-old Logan Village man died in the three car smash last Wednesday night while turning his Ford ute right into Camp Cable Road.
Ambulance officers could not revive him at the scene.
The accident is expected to add weight to a growing campaign for safety improvements to the Camp Cable Road intersection, as well as the Round Ridge Road intersection south of Jimboomba.
Logan Country Safe City Group chairman David Kenny said as tragic as the accident was, he hoped it would spark action on both.
“I wish this had never happened... (we) do hope this speeds up the re-development of these intersections,” he said.
“We’ve been working with the local authorities and council for over 12 months now and we’ve done Millstream Road but there is more to be done.
“We want traffic lights and we are trying to get the (70km/h) speed sign just outside the Shell service station (on the highway) moved north of Camp Cable Road, to give people a chance to turn safely.
“For us at the Safe City Group its a no brainer, we could all see this coming.
“With the Yarrabilba development growing, it needs to happen sooner rather than later.”
Jimboomba Neighbourhood Watch coordinator and Safe City Group member Stan Wells agreed.
“Jimboomba Neighbourhood Watch has been campaigning on (the Camp Cable intersection) for about five years now,” he said.
“It’s been very hard with going through state elections and council elections... (and) we always get the same old answer about the cost involved.
“Well how much is the cost to human life worth.
“So many people use that intersection and we are all vulnerable there.”
