THE Jimboomba Neighbourhood Watch group's crime prevention strategies have been given a boost with 11 new signs.
The 'Neighbourhood Watch Area' signs were installed last week across different suburbs, including Jimboomba, Flagstone, Greenbank, Logan Village. North Maclean, Chambers Flat, Cedar Grove and Cedar Vale.
Jimboomba Neighbourhood Watch area co-ordinator Stan Wells said it had taken more than three months to receive the signs, which Logan City Council erected.
He said the signs were an important part of crime prevention as they not only acted as a deterrent to criminals but also made residents more aware about home security.
"They help community members come forward and join neighbourhood watch to help reduce crime in all areas," Mr Wells said.
"I'm really pleased to see the signs up, they look great."
The Jimboomba Neighbourhood Watch group covers not only Jimboomba but many surrounding suburbs, with zone co-ordinators who attend the meetings.
Mr Wells said the two latest suburbs he was gauging interest in for a neighbourhood watch presence were Yarrabilba and Greenbank.
He said no new neighbourhood watch groups would be started but would instead come under the umbrella of the Jimboomba group.
"That way we can give the zone co-ordinators guidance and help them establish a presence in their area," Mr Wells said.
"People do value being part of a neighbourhood watch group. They feel reassured and it lessens their concerns about crime."
Jimboomba Neighbourhood Watch meets on the first Thursday of every month at 7pm at Dorrington House, Johanna Street, Jimboomba and all are welcome to attend.
