Flames, Smoke and Noise will launch some of the largest rockets in Australia from Cedar Grove near Jimboomba on Sunday.
Presented by the Queensland Rocketry Society, the spectacular will see rockets launched high above the earth, some reaching speeds of 1000 kms per hour.
The event is open to all with spectators invited to take part in Southern Cross Rocketry’s $20 fly it and take it home program.
QRS secretary Blake Nikolic said the spectacular was an event in its own right, but could also be a sneak peak of things to come at Thunda Downunder 2 that will be held just north of Goondiwindi from April 18 to 21 next year.
“We’ll be launching rockets of all sizes,” he said.
“We’ll finish with one big rocket and there will a rocket drag race when we put five or six rockets into the air at the same time.”
South east Queensland based Queensland Rocketry Society is the largest and fastest growing rocketry club in Australia with members aged from 5 to 85.
QRS was set up in 2007 to provide a safe environment to develop and launch rockets and promote the educational and recreational benefits of rocketry.
