LOGAN City Council are on the lookout for people who work tirelessly to improve the community.
Chair of council’s city image committee, Cr Laurie Smith said they were calling for nominations for their Australia Day Awards.
He said the awards were about ensuring ordinary people who do extraordinary things were duly recognised for their efforts to help improve the lives of others and the community.
“Your local hero may be a devoted volunteer, an inspirational teacher, an innovative entrepreneur or someone who gives selflessly week in, week out to help others enjoy a better life,” he said.
“Logan’s Australia Day Awards celebrate locals like 2017 Citizen of the Year David Kenny and 2017 Young Citizen of the Year Samuel Glancy, who don’t think twice about helping others and making a positive difference across our city.”
Nominations can be in the following categories:
- Citizen of the Year – presented to a person for their outstanding endeavours, achievements and community involvement.
- Young Citizen of the Year – presented to a young person (aged under 27 years at January 26, 2018) who has made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.
Nominations for the 2018 awards close on Friday, December 8.
The winners will be presented with their awards on Friday, January 26 at a function at the Beenleigh Events Centre.
