The Australian Supercross Championship finished in an action packed round six in the rain and mud at Jimboomba X Stadium on Saturday night.
Riders across all categories from junior lites to SX1 450cc had to battle the elements on order to gain both individual and wider championship victories.
With laps reduced due to the mud soaked conditions Jay Wilson won the SX2 250cc class final from Chris Blose and Dylan Wills.
Defending SX2 champion Jackson Richardson’s fourth place finish giving him just enough points to take out the championship title once again.
The SX1 class final ended in controversy with 450cc rookie Nathan Crawford coming home first but finishing in third after race officials penalised him for a late off track excursion during the final, handing the win to American Nick Schmidt, with Kade Mosig in second and Logan Village’s Dan Reardon in fourth.
American star Justin Brayton’s fifth place in the final gave him enough points to take the championship back to his homeland for the second year in a row.
Jimboomba X Stadium’s Scott Bannan said even if the wet weather did keep some punters away it made for exciting and unpredictable racing.
“We took a pretty big hit, the weather really knocked us around, but you’ve still got to put the show on and still have a go at getting it done, the people that did come out are really die hard supporters which we really appreciate,” he said.
“Racing was crazy, it just showed how hard it was when some of the best riders in the world were dropping their bikes six or seven times throughout the race.”
Bannan said consistent riding from Richardson and Brayton helped them repeat as champions, adding he was delighted to see Tyler Darby and Blake Fox win the first ever junior championships.
“They (Richardson and Brayton) have the championship all wrapped up now so they are both two time champions which is cool, and we also had Tyler Darby and Blake Fox they’re now the first ever junior Supercross champions we’ve ever had as we’ve never had an official junior championship before in Supercross,” he said.
