Mundoolun Community Centre is not for profit base centre which is run by volunteers and the carols are being held jointly with Mundoolun Neighbourhood Watch.
“We formed the MNHW about three years ago. We are small community and our aim it so connect people with people. We used to hold a Christmas party in our street, in William Humphreys Drive. It used to make it to the front page of the paper. We had a live band, lit up our houses and once a year got together and had a laugh. Because of that, now the majority of people in my street know each other by name,” Mr Aggarwal said.
“People say ‘hello’. People stop and have a chat when they are out and about. People want to come out on the street and be part of the society. We thought if we can do this in a street, why not try to bring the whole community to gather.”
“This is a chance to the community to come together and next year, we want to start our sponsorship program early so we can involve even larger business community.”
The Mundoolun community centre is in its first year and brings activities to the community.
“Due to our geological location and isolation and lack of public transport we want to build a centre to bridge that gap. The community can come and entertain themselves locally. Our theme is to bring old fashion values back to the community by connecting people with people. When local people come together they will get to know each other and the process is repeated. A true community is formed.,” Mr Aggarwal said.
