More than 110 Jimboomba athletes had fun running, jumping and throwing in teams at the regional relay championships held at the State Athletics Facility, at Nathan, on Sunday.
The athletes competed against teams from nine other clubs in the Little Athletics south-east Queensland region with more than 40 local teams earning the right to compete at the state relays championships held at Nathan in December.
About 20 of the club’s track teams qualified through to the state championships in 4 x 100m, 4 x 200m and distance medley events in the under 9, under 10, under 12, under 13, under 14, under 15, under 16 and under 17 age groups.
Teams competing in high jump, long jump, discus and shot put also placed in the top three to qualify for the state championships while several teams also created new regional records.
Local athletes aged six and seven years competed in shuttle relays as well as field events and were presented with participation medallions.
While the full results of the carnival will not be known until later, it is likely that Jimboomba will be well represented by more than 50 athletes at the state championships.
It was the first time that many of the children had competed at a regional championships and all performed to a high level and showed great sportsmanship.
The focus is now on the Jimboomba Little Athletics annual carnival being held at the club’s track on Henderson Road next Sunday.
Athletes will be coming from all over south-east Queensland to compete at the event.
