A number of Swordsmen Martial Arts students representing Queensland brought home an impressive swag of medals having competed at the Australian National Taekwondo Championships in Bendigo from October 6 to 8.
The team competed in various events including sparring, individual poomsae, poomsae pairs and power breaking. It resulted in five national champions, with two silver and four bronze winners.

Bringing home gold medals were Lincoln Harrison, Maharlia Beecroft, Shania Singh, Simon Egan and Scott Ide with silver medals going to Blake Murray and Simon Egan. Bronze medals were achieved by Yehoo Moon, Simon Lee, Avin Singh and Maharlia Beecroft.
Sonsire’e Harrison said that while in Melbourne the team visited local sites including the Deborah mines and participated in team bonding activities.
The team is coached by Derek Murray and Masters Callum Ide, John Tysoe and Cheri Parks. The trip was coordinated by Claudia Murray.
Swordsmen Martial Arts has been in operation for about 20 years with dojangs in Browns Plains and Greenbank. It offers the five disciplines of taekwondo, haidong gumdo, judo,aArchery and karate.
It is run by Master John Tysoe who holds black belts in taekwondo (4th Dan), haidong gumdo (6th Dan), MFA (7th Dan) and karate (1st Dan) and Master Cheri Parks who holds black belts in taekwondo (5th Dan) and haidong gumdo (6th Dan).
The students compete on a monthly basis.
Competition continued on October 21 and 22 with attndance from Swordsman Martial Arts students attending the Australian Mulimpia Martial Arts Championships. Among them were three students in Years 10 and 11, all from Flagstone State Community College.
Jake Egan received four gold medals for Tae kwondo and four gold and one silver medal for Haidong Gumdo (sword). Corey Holgate received two gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal in Taekwondo and Maharlia Beecroft received two gold and one silver medal in Taekwondo.
