The Allstars line dancing team have won numerous categories at the NSW Open Line Dancing Championships.
Amy and Fiona Brown, of Beaudesert, Roxanne Moates, of Regents Park, Diane Ferguson, of Regents Park, and Margaret-Mary Smith, of Capalaba, make up the team that is considered one of the most competitive Queensland line dancing groups.
The team won or placed in nearly every dance routine that they competed in during the October event.
They not only compete with all five of them, they also split into duos, trios and solos.
Team member Amy Brown said she competed in at least 10 routines over the three day competition and the rest of the team competed at the same rate.
“Roxanne not only danced, she judged and taught a workshop,” she said.
“In the sections where we didn’t place, which wasn’t many, we lost to team who are world ranking.
“We even came first in the 30 plus section with a routine we had never done before in competition.
“We are very happy with our achievements.”
Team coach Roxanne Moates said The Allstars had been competing together since 1999.
“Our strength is the fact that we are all hard workers, but our reputation also precedes us and that helps as well,” she said.
“We are sometimes competing against teams who are between 13 and 16 years of age, so we might very well get a third there because we have people in our team who are 60 plus.
“Across the board we excel.”
Ms Brown said the team did not just dance to country music.
“Some of our songs we dance to include Helium by Sia, Sound of Silence by Dami Im and Shut up and Dance by Walk The Moon,” she said.
“We all have undertaken different styles of dance and that is incorporated into our routines.”
Ms Moates said all the dances were choreographed so all each dancer was able to take part at their ability.
“It’s one in all in,” she said.
“Line dancing is judged on presentation, unity, execution and degree of difficulty so we do what everyone can do.”
Ms Moates said the team also had two parent, child teams.
“That just allows us to enter an even more special category,” she said.
Ms Moates said the team was very committed and would excel well into the future.
“We are always challenging ourselves to do better,” she said.
“But at the end of the day we are friends first and if we needed to take a break we would.
“We will continue to trial new routines and perfect old ones.”
The Allstars will now start preparing for 2018 competitions.
