JIMBOOMBA athletes have brought home more than 20 medals from the Queensland School Sport Track and Field Championships held over six days at Nathan.
Thousands of students from across the state competed at the event, which comprised a two-day primary school championship and a four-day secondary school competition.
Among the Jimboomba Athletics and Jimboomba Little Athletics members was Camryn Newton-Smith, of Park Ridge State High School, and Metropolitan West Region who won four gold medals and a silver.
Newton-Smith won gold in the 17 girls 100 metre hurdles, long jump, high jump and pole vault and silver for javelin.
Ashley Moloney won gold medals in the 17 boys 100 metres, 110 metre hurdles and pole vault.
Other Metropolitan West representatives were Ben Roberts who won silver in the 15 boys javelin and Erin Gallagher who brought home a bronze medal for the 11 girls discus.
Park Ridge State High School athlete Mark Wood won silver in the 14 boys 100 metres.
The grade 8 student said he loved running and would continue to compete.
“I hope one day to make it to the Olympics,” he said.
South Coast Region athlete Talosaga Kia, of Canterbury College, won gold medals for 16 year girls discus and shot put, while Felila Kia, also of Canterbury College, came first in the 14 girls discus and shot put and second in javelin.
Motootua Kia won gold for the 11 years discus and silver for the 11 years shot put event.
Other gold medallists were Maddison Aitkin, from Hills College, in the 15 girls pole vault and Sam Windsor, of Beaudesert State High School, in the 14 boys pole vault.
Other local medallists were Emily Schonfisch, who won silver in 17 girls hammer throw; Mitchell Fekete, who placed second in 17 boys discus, Elijah Farrugia, who won silver in the 17-19 multiclass discus and Sam Emblen, who came third in the 17 boys pole vault.
The championship brought to an end the school athletics season during which students competed at school sports days and district and regional championships.
