Woodhill resident Jocelynne Berry has linked up with the Albert Valley Wilderness Society to petition against land clearing after trees were cut down behind her home.
More than 650 people signed the petition in the first four days.
As previously reported by the Times, Logan City Council last month issued Glenlogan Park with an enforcement notice to stop vegetation clearing on a development site bordering on Ms Berry’s property near Falconer Road.
Ms Berry said she thought it was important for people to have their say on land clearing.
She said the results would be forwarded to council.
“This is something we need to do for our future and our grandchildren,” she said.
“The Wilderness Society have gotten right behind me and to have them on my side is great.”
Ms Berry said the petition showed that people were frustrated with the rate of development and the clearing, lawful and unlawful, throughout the area.
“I really wasn’t sure how we would go with the petition,” she said.
“ But I have been so excited to see this amount of signatures in a small space of time.”
AVWS spokesperson Shevaun Russell said Ms Berry had been an advocate for a wildlife corridor on her property for a number of years.
“Tree clearing is happening everywhere and it has certainly touched a nerve in the local community,” she said.
“People need to be heard, take action, write letters to politicians and support groups to help create change.
“It is easy for people to like something on Facebook but we suggest they sign the petition and even leave comments which will be forwarded to council.”
Ms Russell said the group hoped to receive 1000 signatures.
“We are well on our way,” she said.
