COUNCILS and community organisations can apply for money to boost safety and reduce fear of crime.
The money is available through the second round of the government’s Safer Communities Fund.
Wright MP Scott Buchholz said the fund provided grants of up to $1 million for security infrastructure initiatives that addressed crime, reduced the fear of crime, increased feelings of safety and contributed to the safety of communities.
Mr Buchholz said investment in security infrastructure at crime hot-spots would reduce fear of crime and contribute to greater community safety.
“Only safe communities can be strong and prosperous and the best way to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour is to prevent it happening,” he said.
“i encourage local councils and community organisations to apply through this open competitive round for funding for security enhancement projects, such as closed circuit television, bollards and lighting.”
