Hundreds of people turned out to support Flagstone State School’s fundraising efforts at their first ever colour obstacle run.
The run on October 14, was organised by the school’s P and C committee, and to add to the day a huge waterslide, measuring nearly 60 metres in length, was organised by Peet Limited.
P and C secretary Jen Noordzy said the school had raised about $5000 which would go toward fitting air conditioners in junior classrooms.
“We had a little bit of a shortfall so we wanted a way that the community would benefit and so would we,” she said.
“Other proceeds from the event will also help refit our school canteen.”
Ms Noordzy said the P and C had been extremely pleased with the event.
“We just can’t believe how well supported it was in the first year of doing it,” she said.
“The rain even held out for us.
“Everyone was absolutely loving the colour run and that massive waterslide.”
Ms Noordzy said the course was about one-kilometre in length where colour was thrown on participants at various stages.
“We ran the races every 15 minutes and the kids were loving it, so we let them go around a few times,” she said.
“I think one of them even went like 15 times.
“Everyone got a medal at the end of their run which made it really special.”
Ms Noordzy said the course contained a mud hill, ropes course, tyre hop and a hay bale mountain.
“We really want to try and do something like this every second year,” she said.
“They are really popular around Brisbane and the Gold Coast but when do you have one you can go in so close to home.”
