HAVING done a few short stints at the Jimboomba Times over the past two years, I am excited to have been appointed as the masthead’s senior journalist.
I come from the Redlands, where I have worked as a journalist, although I started my career 20-something years ago with a daily newspaper in South Africa.
Since then my work has taken me to court rooms, rural African villages, council meetings, community events and even into a maximum security prison.
As I take up this role, I am reminded of why I am passionate about being a journalist.
Most importantly, is that – armed with open-mindedness and empathy – my job enables me to give a voice to other people, to help them share their stories.
Over the years there have been stories of heartbreak, courage, joy and injustice.
It is humbling and an honour to play a part in giving people a voice and a platform to speak.
I look forward to hearing and sharing the stories of Jimboomba Times readers, interesting characters from the region and local news-makers.
It is an opportune time to join the paper, with a recently revamped website that has a continued strong focus on community issues and events.
Through this website, the news team aims to provide essential information and highlight issues important to our readers.
I look forward to engaging with readers of the Jimboomba Times, hearing what is important to you and helping share your stories.
