BRUCE and Denise Morcombe have visited Jimboomba State School to share important child safety messages with students.
The visit by Mr and Mrs Morcombe was organised through the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and Logan City Council.
Jimboomba State School deputy principal Grant Pyke said the Morcombe’s had talked about recognising their body clues, reacting if they felt unsafe and reporting to their safety network.
Students were encouraged to remember the key messages as the three Rs – recognise, react and report.
“Students were encouraged to come up with five trusted people they can go to in order to report their safety concerns, Mr Pyke said.
Examples were a mother, father, aunty, teacher, principal or police officer.
“Denise and Bruce also talked about the importance of families coming up with a safe word that only they know,” he said.
“If someone approaches your child with a story that you sent them to pick them up and they don’t tell them the agreed safe word, your child won’t be tricked into going with them.”
Mr Pyke said the school captains presented Mr and Mrs Morcombe with gifts and the tuckshop team put on an afternoon tea.
Jimboomba State School will support Daniel Morcombe Day on October 27.
Students are encouraged to wear red on that day and bring a gold coin to donate to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
