Jimboomba athletes did themselves proud at the annual Laidley Twilight Carnival in the Lockyer Valley on the weekend, winning medals in both track and field events.

Jimboomba Little Athletics was represented by nine young athletes who were aged from five to 15 years, each athlete had lots of fun and personal bests were achieved in most events.

For Zayde Avard and Logan Pennings, both aged five, it was their first ever carnival. Zayde came first in his 70m and 100m sprint events while Logan came second in his 100m, second in discus and third in the 70m.

Competing in the under seven age group, Hunter Pennings placed second in the 70m and third in both the 100m and long jump.

Representing Jimboomba in the under 10 age group were Zoe Brisbane and Nicole Gallagher.

Zoe won bronze medals in the 70m, 100m, 200m and high jump, while Nicole finished just outside the medals in shot put and achieved a personal best in the 70m sprint.

Erin Gallagher and Georgia Grimsey competed well in the under 12 age group with Erin collecting gold medals in the 70m and shot put, silver medals in the 100m and 200m and a bronze for triple jump.

Georgia also ran well on the day, as did Wyatt Gibson in the competitive under 13 boys’ events.

Jimboomba’s oldest representative, Maddison Aitkin also had a fantastic meet winning three gold medals in the under 15 girls 100m, 200m and triple jump as well as a bronze for discus.

The coming week will see more than 30 Jimboomba Little Athletics members competing at the Queensland Schools Athletics Championships at the State Athletics Facility with the 10-12 years events being held on Tuesday and Wednesday and events for 13-19 year students being held over four days from Thursday to Sunday.
