Three teenagers are lucky to be alive after they crashed a stolen four-wheel-drive straight into a concrete wall in Brisbane's inner north overnight.
The group were driving the 4WD, taken from a Lyons Terrace address in Windsor earlier that night, along Somerset Street when they crashed into a retaining wall just before 2am.
The boys yelled out for help and were pulled from the vehicle by neighbours before the vehicle burst into flames, Queensland Ambulance operations supervisor Peter Batt said.
"The young lads had hit the wall at reasonable speed and done extensive damage to the vehicle," he said.
"From accounts given to us from bystanders, one of the lads had a difficult time getting out of the vehicle and was assisted from the vehicle in some way.
"By the time they had got him out, smoke and flames were starting to come from underneath the engine and it wasn't long after that the vehicle was certainly well alight."
Two teenagers were taken to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, with one suffering serious abdominal injuries and the other a suspected broken wrist.
The other teenageer was taken to Lady Cilento Children's Hospital with a broken femur and wrist.
Queensland Police Acting Inspector David Farley said police, including the officers from the Child Protection Unit, would investigate.
"As you can see it is a dead-end street and (police are) certainly looking for an explanation as to why the vehicle would travel at speed into a retaining wall," he said.
