Thousands of people flocked to the grounds of Hills International College on Saturday night, September 23 for the first round of the Australia Supercross Championships at Jimboomba X Stadium.
People travelled from all across south-east Queensland and from as far away as Darwin and Newcastle to take in all the thrills and spills and fast and furious action, culminating with the main events the SX1 450cc and SX2 250cc finals which were thrilling contests.
Prior to start of the heats for each racing class a pit party was held where fans both young and old got the chance to hang out with the riders and their respective teams.
Jimboomba X Stadium’s Scott Bannan said he was more than pleased with the attendance and is looking forward to another successful event on November 18 when Jimboomba hosts the final round of the championship.
It was a great turnout, considering how hot it was, I think it was really good,”he said.
“It was the second biggest crowd we have ever had.
“There was just over 7000 people.”
Bannan said the final round on November 18 will have a totally redesigned track.
“It’s always harder the second one, but the last round all the championships will be decided on the night,” he said.
“It’s a brand new track too, we’re putting a hole new track in.
“There’s also some things I want to change with the venue so the whole thing runs a bit smoother, we will get some extra toilets and extra bins, so hopefully it goes alright.”
