Some of the best Supercross riders in the world have arrived in Logan and are chomping at the bit to hit the track at Jimboomba X Stadium on Saturday night, September 23.
The riders who include the likes of American Justin Brayton, Todd Waters and Logan Village product Dan Reardon are here to contest round one of the Australian Supercross Championship at Jimboomba.
Many of them will return to Jimboomba for round six on November 18, but for now their focus was on advancing through the heats and popping champagne in a toast to victory in the finals of Saturday night’s event.
A key match-up in the SX1 450cc class will be defending champion Brayton, who took out the Jimboomba round in 2016, against 2015 winner Reardon, who said winning the opening round in Jimboomba is important for those looking to stake a claim on the entire Australian Supercross Championship.
“It’s pretty important, we have a six round series so every point is pretty vital to being able to win that championship at the end end of the day,” he said.
“First rounds are pretty important in Motorsport across the world, no different from Jimboomba.”
American veteran Brayton said the Jimboomba X Stadium events are always a fun experience.
“The layout of the track is very similar to American Supercross which I was happy about,” he said.
“The track builders here do an amazing job, and the crowd was great (last year).
“It’s a little bit of a different feel because it’s outside of a stadium, it’s not inside with bleachers and seats all around inside a 40,00 seat stadium, but I think it’s really cool.
“I chose to come back because I really enjoy it and I love racing in front of the fans here.”
SX2 class defending champion Jackson Richardson will also look to defend the SX2 title on Saturday night and said lifting the SX2 trophy would not be a sure thing.
“The goal for this year is to hopefully retain the title, but it’s going to be no easy feat, he said.
“Myself and the team have been putting in a lot of work but there’s going to be a lot of fast guys again this year.”
As well as the SX1 and SX2 classes there will also be a 85cc and junior lights divisions being raced with racing starting at 6pm and pit party prior to gates dropping at 4pm.
