Chicks Conquering Cancer workers and supporters will be having their cake and eating it too with a Bake Off fundraising venture being staged on September 30.
Keen bakers are invited to leave their cakes and slices for judging at 10.30am at Dorrington House, Johanna Street, Jimboomba, with registration at 10am and morning tea at 11am.
The cost is $5 per item to be judged and there is a range of prizes from local business sponsors. The goods will be judged by three judges, including major sponsor Holly Wilson, from Jimboomba Bakery.
Kathy Smith, of Chicks Conquering Cancer, said this was a first for the group and it had already attracted about 25 entrants and 10 children. There are various sections in the competition, including decorated cupcake, savoury section, tray cake, under 12 decorated cake, ugliest cake and best decorated. The best decorated item will be auctioned on the day while all other entries will form the basis of the morning tea. Morning tea is available at a cost of $10.
Ms Smith said Chicks Conquering Cancer was founded six years ago and had branches in Jimboomba, Kooralbyn and Canungra. The group provided social support and transport to cancer sufferers in the Queensland rural area. Anyone wanting to register can check out the CCC Facebook page or contact Ms Smith on 0417 826 547, or email kychicksconqueringcancer@gmail.com by September 28.
