Emmaus College agriculture students have won big at both the Royal Queensland and Canungra shows and their teachers have high hopes for the Beaudesert Show this weekend.
Agricultural teacher Laura Edwards said she and colleague Will Goss were very proud of the schools achievements.
“We entered cheese, wine and our chickens at the Ekka,” she said.
“This was the first year they have held the Schools Hy-line Brown Egg Laying Competition and we came first in egg quality and third for best presented trio of hens.”
Ms Edwards said the school was delivered six 12-week-old Hy-line brown hens at the beginning of last term.
“With the help of all the agriculture classes and other staff we raised them into egg laying superstars,” she said.
“Before the show the students helped clean the hens and made sure they were looking their best.”
Achievement at Canungra
Ms Edwards said the school entered their Droughtmaster cattle into the stud beef section.
“We won grand champion female and bull in the tropical class,” she said.
“Students placed third and fourth in the junior paraders.
“We had a second placing in the 17 and under paraders section and a third place in the 15 – 16 section.”
Beaudesert hopes
Ms Edwards said the students were ready for this weekend’s event and hoped to do well with their Lake Moogerah Droughtmaster cattle which are on loan from Phil Gutzke.
“We really hope to do well this weekend at the Beaudesert Show,” she said.
“We are entering all of our Droughtmaster cattle into the stud beef section.
“Ten Emmaus students will also take part in the junior paraders competition.
“Following on from our Canungra success we hope to do well.”
Beaudesert Show will be held at the Beaudesert Showgrounds, Albert Street, Beaudesert on September 8 and 9.
Gates open at 8am both days.
